My goodness, the amount of ignorance on this page is astounding. The column talks about under aged girls being exploited, that's wrong. Yes porn is legal, and many women do it willingly because the money is good.
An easy answer is: they should wake up and set out to better themselves. Anyone who truly believes it's that easy is quite delirious. I've known quite a few successful Aboriginal people in my day, I am Ojibwa, and have seen both poverty and success within my community. I am among a few in my family to have been educated.

Disgusting is all pornography but I find it particularly disgusting that anyone would want to view pornography featuring teenaged early immigrants (aka North American Indians), What's the matter with these people?

Go for a walk around Selkirk Avenue at 10:00 a.m. and see the young native girls working the streets. The problem is in our own backyard nevermind some wannabe pimp coming here to film himself having sex with girls who can be bought for a pack of smokes. He came here to take advantage of women with no self esteem who got suckered by his pimp talk. They just happened to be native. This is a woman's issue regardless of race. The real problem is the people that buy these women either on the internet or on the street.

Would these ethnocentric feminist whiners rather have these native women prostituting themselves or in poverty?
And who is exploiting who, here? Young native women making money supplying demand to see them naked are the exploiters - and more power to them. Why do these Do-gooders always assume young native women lack the same agency that white or black or Asian women have? Countless young women - and men - have begun various careers with soft-core porn. Why should Native women be an exception? If Native women can be expected to be doctors or lawyers or homemakers or 7-11 clerks like every other woman of every other ethnicity, why can't they be porn models, too, without hysterical bleeding hearts warping the issue?
What if these young Native women don't want to be "protected" from their choices any more than any other woman or man does? The Free Press should get an award for hypocrisy, though: the website in question could never have afforded to BUY the kind of publicity they just got!

Kudos to you ZAK. The bottom line is that it does not matter what race is being exploited. it is wrong, and it is not any less serious for them. Just tired of everything being native. Wish I had the benefits and tax breaks they have. Know that as a single mother that raised 4 kids who are all professionals or hard working tax paying members of society in spite of having virtually nothing growing up except for a lot of love and attention. They had the ability to become nothing, but worked hard to become something.

What do chiefs get paid for?
It is as much as the police's responsibility for getting on this case as it is for the chiefs to educate and prevent these things from happening.
Or,

Good for Lisa Michell for standing up for the right of these girls... her words carry meaning.
But... on the other hand... really, unless there is proof that what is depicted on the web site involves underage girls or that non-consentual acts took place, where is the issue??? Why should the police investigate a web site based on the fact that someone doesn't like the idea of it?
Pornography is legal last time I checked, and there are plenty of people of all races and creeds who have taken their clothes off and performed sex acts in front of a camera
Also to the Free Press... do you not think that many, many more people will be looking at this page due to the fact that you have run this story? Sensationalism at its best. In effect you have given the pornographers more free advertising that they could have ever hoped for, thus making them richer in the process. Good work, try and absolve yourselves from that fact.

Yes porn sites are not illegal -
I think it will only be a problem for him because it will allow ease of access to him from any authorities that "might" want to check him out - his "personal touch" on the site removes a lot of question as to who is responsible for what.
I would also think most porn sites do not have the owners performing (if he truly is the owner of the business) or bragging about their adventures in a foreign country.
Discretion would be a valuable habit to have when dealing in porn industry -

I don't see how this is any more of a concern than it would be for any other women involved in pornography. If they are under age, that's another issues, because then it's child pornography, however their ancestry and ethnicity isn't the issue either way you look at it. Pornography has been around for centuries, and people from all walks of life CHOOSE to participate in the lifestyle... many choose because they enjoy it, many choose it because it's a way to earn good money, others choose it to feed their addictions. Point is, it's not just aboriginal women who are unwillingly exploited or choose to be exploited this way.

She is not attempting to change the world but to better the plight of Aboriginal Women in her immediate area. When was the last time a white woman in Winnipeg did the same. I am so proud of her efforts. The Aboriginal Feminist Woman's movement in Manitoba is the only one in sight.
The rest of us are content to just watch and make comments. Aboriginal women who have been murdered in Winnipeg and others that are still missing are real. They breathe, love, cry, and suffer. They are our sisters white darlings. Die your hair black, get dark skin tone sprayed on your face and get out there. You won't like the reality.
All women living in this province should support such efforts. It is abuse. It is prejudice. It is disgusting. I am ashamed of what provincial and national women are allowing to happen to the female Aboriginal population. Put your suchi and fancy coffees aside girls and join all Aboriginal women in protest.

BRAVO LISA! I think Lisa Michell is a role model to ALL walks in EACH direction! if more women out there made issues like this known and publicized we wouldn't have this many women victimized! and for those of you who minimize the "fed alcohol and drugs" - obviously you are ignorant to addictions. This predator is preying on those who have addictions making it easier as participants. Would those women willingly partake in such a degrading act if their minds weren't coulded over? I would think not. I agree this is a problem no matter what background or nationality a woman comes from; it just so happens this particular site focused on First Nations women. More advocates SHOULD come forward to represent women of all backgrounds when we see victimization in such a public forum. again, I can only wish to have the caliber, strength and heart of Lisa Michell........ and FYI - she does this on her OWN time...unpaid.

I think that people from all kinds of races are exploited regularly on these sites not just Aboriginals! I get that they are using media outlets to get the message out but what I'm confused about is why when an Aboriginal person ends up in this position it's not their fault even if it was an exchange of money for sexual acts! It's a choice that everyone could make but most just don't!

As usual, aboriginals are blaming somebody other than themselves. The porn industry is a huge industry, and you can find porn of any human denomination on the internet. These girls were offered money and directionless poeple that do not work for a living will do anything for money...That is how they get by. I certainly don't condone porn, but there was nothing illegal done here. Hopefully the individuals involved can rectify their lives.

"she was fed booze and drugs" - how is one 'fed' booze and drugs? If somebody offers me either, I'll say no. I have never done drugs and I stopped drinking when I was 19 because I actually don't like alcohol. So, unless the person is tied down and a tube put down his or her throat, the person has the option of saying no. What the line should have read is: "I was offered booze and drugs and I accepted the offer and, therefore, became drunk and stoned". That's is how it happened. Nobody is 'fed' booze and drugs and a person does not consume booze and drugs unless he or she wishes so to do.
Sure, I may think the guy is slime but nowhere is it indicated that he forced these women into doing this.
Decades ago, Linda Lovelace tried to say that she was duped into doing Deep Throat. Balderdash - she was not held at gun point and if she was stoned, it was because she chose to consume the dope.

Lisa Michell - do you really think this is the only adult sight that has Canadian Aboriginal woman on it? You can't be that naive?
I also would have thought that you would have pushed this panic button a lot earlier - considering that some missing/murdered aboriginal woman in Manitoba worked in the sex trade??
Adult sites is the largest cash cow on the internet - usually the servers are in countries where you can't touch them or even find out who the real owners are - this shimmy2 is just an idiot for letting himself be identified as the owner and that will be his downfall.

This country is one of the best countries in the world, where people have been coming from all over the world in search of better future for their families, which in most cases they could not find, where ever they came from.
Every immigrant figured out that if they put genuine effort in achieving their goal in upgrading their lives, then this is a land of opportunities. So they worked hard and achieve their destination.
Now Aboriginals, who are the real owners of this country and have more opportunities available for them to follow the same pattern like any body else, they can make a difference in their life style, instead of sitting and complaining about every thing happening in their lives. All they have to do, wake up early morning and pursue a career which leads to the right direction and make a difference in life.
This is the only way of getting ahead in life and getting out of misery. There are lots of people came to this country with nothing but became something.

Nah, I'm sure he could even park his dumb *ss outside the U of M or U of W and find some willing participants. Some would want or need the money, some would just be so off the wall and looking to get noticed. Heck, maybe some will pad their resumes later after getting their degree or PHD by adding "I'm also an actress" but forgetting to include the part about the porn industry having paid them in the first place.
Not sure yet and have to dig further but does he give equal billing to same sex performances? Can often be found that many of the porn sites cater to all types so nobody feels excluded. How do I know? Wham, even surfing seemingly honest and family-oriented sites one can find pop-ups alerting you to some pretty raunchy sites. Heck, ever see the stunning women on those "Pick Up The Phone and Call Us" commercials? Yup, you look like that BUT don't have any dates any night of the week??? Surrrrrrrrrrreeee

I too found his site but nothing I haven't seen before. On the other hand, did read a lot of his racist views, the bigotry etc. He likes to use the n-word A LOT as in the shortened slang version of *igga. The guy's a freaking morn to be sure.
He goes on to mention streets and the communities around the North End as well as the Photo Radar Cams and where he stayed while in Winnipeg etc. I imagine he's even reading this story and the replies to it when he gets the chance to.
In his blathering rant on his site, he talks about being banned from Grand Portage Indian Reservation in Minnesota and then goes on to state "I'm surprised the Chippewa tribe took a break from laundering federal government grant money to even take notice of me"
The guy's a clown and the site isn't as successful as he'd have you believe. If you do read his nasty rants and all out assault on just about every race, you'll find one day that some won't know he's just an idiot in disguise and won't think he's joking either. I'd believe this loser when he tells all on his site "my car broke down and the repairs were so high that I took a Greyhound Bus to the middle of Canada" Oooh, high roller!!!
Not sure but with what he's said about the reservations etc., man, it would be suicide to ever visit any of them in the future, lest they somehow figure nobody will miss him in the first place so...
Guy's a loser...who takes a GH bus from Florida to here anyway???
FYI-I wouldn't call 911 if I saw him being beaten

@a_centrist_view:
Prostitution, in and of itself, is not illegal in Canada. Rather, keeping a common bawdy house, living off the avails of prostitution, and communicating in a public place for the purposes of prostitution are criminalized by Canadian law. Nowhere in Canadian law is prostitution actually illegal. In law, offering an adult money (or goods in kind) to pose for a pornographic video is no different than offering an adult money for sexual services. If the transaction and the act take place privately (e.g. not on the street or in a car), if no minors are involved, and if the premises are not a 'common bawdy house', there is no legal issue.
Posted by:a_centrist_view
November 4, 2010 at 3:58 PM
I don't want to go into the issue on the morality of porn or prostitution, but I am very curious about where the line between legal and illegal is drawn:
If a person offers money in exchange for sex, then that is an illegal act that we call soliciting/prostitution.
If a person offers money in exchange for sex, takes a video of it and then sells copies of the act being performed that is called porn and is legal.
How are they not the same?

First thing I did when I heard about Charlie Sheen? Had to look it up and see who he was into now. Found this young woman of 21/22 or so, laughed at how so many would advise that he's such an old man and he's a perv etc. Made the news and Charlie's still in business and so will this guy featured in today's story be too.
Don't necessarily agree or condone what he does, also don't frequent such sites but did check out the one Charlie's new temp. fling has. Of course a slight preview, she's offering a discount for monthly access yet what I saw was a bimbo just looking for attention from disgraceful individuals with sad lives.
Are some of you thinking that it's just native/aboriginals being exploited today? Are you thinking all aboriginals are naive or stupid or inexperienced and WANT your guidance or help or support? If so, you must think you're The Saviour to All???
Good job though, you've just made even more aware of this guy and what he's running! Personally, I wonder why some of these women don't come to their "community support" in the first place or the very first instance where they were "wronged?" Maybe telling them they were wronged and repeating it so often, they too believed they need your help? Guess the street workers all agree with you and they all just want a free hug too....

So I guess its ok for white and black, etc women to be exploited but not native women? Are native women somehow less able to make desicions for themselves? If you are going to stand up, stand up for all women, otherwise sit down. Native women are beautiful and there is nothing wrong in sharing in that beauty. Its an individual choice and if they choose to be on these websites that should be enough. Michell is basically saying native american women are stupid and poor and need to be protected moreso than other women. Shame on her. I believe native american women are smart and capable of making the same decisions women all across the world have made.

I don't understand this. It's Canada, and it's a free country. These girls were of legal age and consenting. I still remember when Girls Gone Wild came to Winnipeg a few years ago. If I can recall, there were no groups up in arms over their presence.
Morally, I don't agree with the expolitation of woman who likely are impoverished, come from broken homes, etc. However, if these Aboriginal groups cared at all about woman, they would go after the entire Adult film industry, not just watch out for their own kind.

Whats even more funny is the exploitation of woman occurs mainly because of female vanity. If you want to stop the "exploitation" then start excepting all woman as beautiful, fat ,skinny, all colors and stop makeing the female body so taboo.

Don't mistake a strong grasp of reality for apathy. I have no love for his profession or who he targets, but I understand that there is no real avenue to stopping this through legislation. Many women choose to participate, and are not vulnerable. Realistically there is no way to regulate for 'low income'or 'vulnerable' porn stars.

Exploitation? Not with this story. These are willing participants. Why does it always have to be an Aboriginal issue when it's negative.probably because it is. To those that say this is a non-issue, I ask why the pornographer chose to go to a less influential neighborhood to ply his business? Why didn't he set up camp in Charleswood or St. Vital? The truth is that he relies on having access to a group of people that need money and will degrade themselves for that money. This is an unsavory business model and a modern society should not stand for it.

Is it exploitation if the women are doign it willingly and making money from it. Is Pamela Anderson exploited? Jenna Jamison? There are tons of women who are making money and in some cases getting rich form nothing more than showing their bodies.
Plain and simple, naked = money. So unless these women were getting filmed unknowingly in some change room or something, they are not being exploited.
I find it odd that the only reason this is a story is because it involves aboriginal girls. Cus I am sure if you looked hard enough, you could find hundreds of Wpg girls doign the same thing on the internet, where is the story about them???

Good grief - I can hear a request for another government handout. Let's see, to study the issue and determine how many more billions will be needed for these poor girls. Look, if their own communities would look after themselves, then there wouldn't be so much of this happening. They are over 18, I assume, and they can do what they wish. They are not being exploited and how, Scubs, can a person be tricked into doing this sort of thing? Could I trick you into doing something that I asked you to do if it involved sex? I think not.
This is not an Aboriginal issue. There are porn sites dedicated to both women and men of all colours, ethnic backgrounds, etc. Why are the chiefs not making sure that the girls grow up to be educated and savvy? Question: we spend billions on aboriginal programs so why do we still have problems? And, how is it that every other group in society can succeed without billions of dollars?
Sorry, to call this an aboriginal issue is downright insane.

Lack of a fatherly figure at home, lack of direction etc. the bottom line is "Why" are these woman willing to do this? scubs, the porn industry is huge and you can't tell me that each and every person in it has been "tricked" into being filmed. You have to sign a consent form - READ it before you take off your clothes.
In my opinion, the ONLY issue here is whether the girls were intoxicated or under 18 at the time of filming. People's self esteem problem is their own problem and society can't babysit the entire world because of them. Reality is harsh, and before you start taking your clothes off for money you need to think about what you're doing and who will see it.

"We need people to be aware of this," said Lisa Michell, founder of the Memorial March for Missing and Murdered Women.
Newsflash..people are aware. But if these women as you say are the ones abused then why on earth are they doing it. And willingly to boot. Some answers. Many love the notoriety of it. They can boast to friends. They love to have their own dirty little secret. Some just want to be immortalized in the computer world forever. Many love to have others watching. Some want easy cash for drugs/booze. They just don't go out one day and say to themselves "I think I'll do a porn film or get myself on a porn site". Sadly, your not ever going to stop the porn or prostitution industry. And it IS an industry. Big bucks exchange hands. These women who try to stop this, I commend your efforts but your fighting a losing battle. Ever stop to think that even your husbands and boyfriends ever watch porn, or go to strip clubs, or glance at a young woman on the street or even turn the pages to gawk at the Sunshine girl in the Wpg Sun??? Of course they do. Doesn't make it right but they do it anyways. I work in huge warehouse, and the guys (especially the married ones) talk about women all the time, and believe me it's not the wives they talk about. Anyone knows who has a teenage daughter that you can talk to them and give them warnings until your blue in the face. But once they make their minds they will do this, and just to spite you.

"This is not an aboriginal issue. It's a community issue. Who's to say he won't target other women?" Michell said.
The guy is a creep but he hasn't broken any laws. Can you call it exploitation if consent was given in the form of a contract? Why get apoplectic over this guy when there are native street gangs here pimping out native girls?

Do you hear that...... I don't hear it. Usually some chiefs are outraged. To bad the chiefs can't support native women the way they support sitting on the CFS board.

It's a woman's right to decide if she wants to be involved with this sort of thing or not.
